When purchasing brand new equipment, make sure that spare parts are readily available to prevent equipment downtime. Most sealing equipment will go through consumable parts such as heating elements, PTFE, belts, silicone rubber, etc. While manufacturers carry spare parts for their own equipment, they are unlikely to carry spares for other machines. Downtime can be costly when parts are unavailable.
Research Equipment Before Purchase
Thoroughly research equipment and vendor before you purchase to ensure that spare parts, especially consumable parts, are readily available. If you are not sure what parts should be kept on hand, ask the equipment manufacturer. Low cost machines may seem like a good option if you are price conscious, but if you cannot find replacement parts for your machine, then you may not be able to use that machine when parts need replacing defeating the purpose of purchasing a machine.
Calculate Cost of Spare Parts
To calculate the cost of spare parts, calculate what one hour of downtime will cost your company. Working from this information and factoring in lead times, you can determine the cost of an unexpected shutdown. Then compare that to the cost of purchasing and storing replacement parts. You can make an informed decision based on this analysis.
If you do not purchase your machine from a manufacturer with a solid spare parts inventory, the cost of downtime can be high while waiting for the part.
Purchase Spare Parts even with New Equipment
We recommend stocking spare parts with new equipment. If a part is found to be defective, you can mitigate downtime by having spares available for replacement right away. In addition, new equipment will still go through wear and tear parts quickly, especially if you plan to run the machine through heavy production.
Our parts department offers support throughout the lifetime of your machine, assisting with parts selection, expedited order and shipment of your parts.

**03/02/20 Update: Natural Products Expo West has been postponed until further notice given the COVID-19 situation. You can read more here.**
We will be exhibiting at the upcoming Natural Products Expo West March 5-7, 2020 at the Anaheim Convention Center. We are the sealing experts so stop by our booth #9301 and see the sealers we recommend for your packaging needs.
We can offer both flexible packaging as well as heat sealing equipment for your packaging needs. We have a variety of flexible packaging options available – remember that foil bags will have the best barrier for preventing oxidation.
Once the pouch has been selected, the pouches must then be filled with your product and heat sealed to prevent the bags from being tampered with. To seal your bags, we offer a variety of heat sealing equipment that can meet your needs. Whether you are just starting your production and looking for basic and affordable units or faster production volumes with the option to print a date code or expiration date on the seal line.
Remember that if you choose a gusseted bag, a single element sealer such as your typical hand impulse sealer cannot properly seal through all four layers of the gusseted bag. Do not use a hand or foot or automatic sealer, not even a 5mm sealer. We recommend using a direct heat (constant heat) type of sealer. Direct heat sealers will maintain constant heat in both jaws.
With its sleek and compact design, the WNS-200D is great for smaller work spaces. Our WNS-200D is equipped with a digital timer which creates a consistent and reliable seal each time – the sealing arm is easily activated and will not result in operator fatigue.
If you already have your bags and need a heat sealer option, we can test your bags on our sealers and send the samples back to you along with a video demo. Just contact us!
