Seal and Code in One Step!

All of our stainless steel band sealers provide you with the option to code your bag whether through embossing or dry ink coding or hot stamp printing.

Embossing leaves an imprint on your material w/o using any type of ink. Our band sealers will continually emboss characters at the seal line and show up best on darker or foil type of bags!

CBS-880 / FR-770 offer embossing on the seal line

Dry ink coding prints ink on the bag using an ink roller that is heat activated. The standard font size is 18PT but we also offer an option of 10.5PT for those seeking smaller print sizes. Dry ink coding prints a very clear and solid message at the seal line.

What Does “Seal Width” Mean for a Sealer?

When shopping around for a heat impulse sealer, the two most important questions you will need to answer are:

Q: What sealer size should I purchase?
A: How wide is your bag? This one is easy. If your bag is 6″, then you will need a sealer that will fit your 6″ bag. The closest size to that is our 8″ hand sealer.

Next Q: What seal width should I choose?
There are a variety of seal widths that a sealer can make. There are two types of heating elements: round or flat. The round wire is mainly used to cut and seal with no excess material above the seal. Depending on the width of the flat wire element, sealers are available in 2-3mm, 5mm, 8mm, or 10 mm. If you are sealing thicker materials, you may want to choose a wider seal width for better heat penetration. Please download our seal width guide for a better idea of the type of seal width you should choose. The most basic seal width is 2mm and if you are sealing a general poly bag, the 2mm seal width will do the trick.

Vacuum Bags Demystified!

Do you have a vacuum sealer and looking to purchase vacuum bags? If you are, remember that there are TWO kinds of vacuum bags available on the market: standard or embossed/channeled. Make sure you purchase the correct bags. See our post to differentiate.

Standard Vacuum Bags – two smooth layers

Channeled Bags – One smooth layer and one coated layer

Bags Defined:
Standard Vacuum Bags – are clear poly/nylon pouches that can be used with a vacuum chamber or nozzle vacuum machine. Standard vacuum bags are much LESS expensive than channeled bags. There is also much more variety of the standard vacuum bags such as sous vide (boilable), thicker bags (4mil or 5mil), zipper and hang hole, and much more! Channeled Bags – are characterized by the embossed or special surface which creates a pathway or “channel” which allows the air to be pulled out of the bags. These bags will work on ANY and ALL vacuum sealers. Your home machines (Foodshell, FoodSaver, Seal-A-Meal models) MUST use the channel bags because they are external clamp machines. MAINTENANCE – Direct Heat (Constant Heat) Sealers

KF-CS Series Portable Direct Heat Sealer

For sealing thicker materials, we are big fans of direct heat sealers – portable or foot operated. Direct Heat Sealers provide really beautiful seals and are super easy to use. However, to ensure that your direct heat sealer enjoys a long life, please follow the following easy steps.

Always unplug the sealer from the power source when doing maintenance.
Make sure the unit is not left on when not in use for a period of time.
Do not leave the unit on overnight. This will shorten the life of the parts.
Find the lowest temperature that will still seal the bag.
Make sure that when the foot board is depressed that the foot board does not hit the ground.
Make sure that the unit is wiped down periodically to remove any excess bag material left behind after sealing.
Remove any food debris from the sealer or seal bars that may have oozed out of the bag when sealing if you are packaging food.
Purchase Silicone Spray from a local hardware store . There are many brands & types. I would look for food grade Silicone Spray if packaging food.
THS Series Foot Operated Direct Heat Sealer
Spray the Silicone Spray onto a shop rag or tooth brush. When the sealer is turned off for the day & near cooled, still warm is a perfect time to wipe down the sealer. Never spray the Silicone Spray directly on to the unit.

Impulse Sealing vs. Direct Heat Sealing – Your Questions Answered

We often get this question: What is the difference between impulse sealing and direct heat sealing and how do I choose??

Impulse sealers – require no warm up time and seal by applying a pulse of energy to the sealing area, followed immediately by cooling. Impulse sealers only use power when the jaw is lowered. **So if you are just sealing your every day poly bags, an impulse sealer will do the trick.**

Direct heat sealers (constant heat) – maintain constant heat in both jaws. Direct heat sealers use power as long as the machine is turned on. As a result, direct heat sealers possess better heat penetration in order to seal thicker materials. **If you are sealing thicker materials such as kraft paper or anything with gussets, go with a direct heat sealer.**
